about

Anthony Griffin, a 19-year-old black man, was shot and killed by a Montreal police officer on Nov. 11, 1987. He had been trying to run from Constable Allan Gosset, but stopped and turned around when Gosset told him to do. Gosset, his gun pointed at Griffin, fired and killed Griffin.

Gosset was involved in more police brutality cases in his career, always getting acquitted, always getting a raise and a promotion afterwards.

This was one of the two instances of violence that shaped my childhood, along with the Polytechnique killings. They taught me that despite my environment not showing that, black men and all women were targets to some, and did not yet have equal standing in society despite the law books not specifying gender and skin colour in their description of rights.
